Tips & Tricks for Staying Consistent
As a TTS Supervisor, elite volleyball coach, devoted girlfriend, daughter, sister and friend, there are times I am overwhelmed with how much I feel like I “have” to do, and how little time I think I have to do it all. However, when I take a moment to reset myself, I am reminded of how I am able to stay on the straight and narrow, despite wearing many hats and spinning multiple plates every day. Thanks to the role models and other wonderful influences I have had on my life, I have learned that in order to balance all of my passions, my health and wellness journey has to center around being consistency. Below are some of my best tips that I hope will help you stay consistent, even when it feels like the world is trying its best to throw you off!
Only invest in your passions.
It is easier to stick with and prioritize tasks when they support or contribute to something we are truly passionate about.
Prioritize your priorities on a weekly basis!
- For example, my top three priorities in life are Family, Work and Volleyball.
- Within these three main priorities, I sub-prioritize. Some weeks, certain priorities need more attention than the others in order to keep me balanced as a whole.
- An easy way to keep track of what you need to prioritize is to write them down in order of “most important” to “least important” in your weekly agenda!
Prepare the night before.
I prepare as much as possible for my day the night before, so every single day starts with an efficient routine. I even timed each task to prove to myself that I’m never too tired to spend a few extra minutes prepping for what’s to come. Try it – your morning self will thank you!
- Laying out clothes (work outfit, gym clothes, winter wear, etc.) – 47 seconds
- Preparing my dog’s breakfast – 1 min, 6 sec
- Packing my lunch – 4 min 39 se
- Total time = 5 min 26 sec
Be a lifelong learner.
- The world is moving too fast – allow your mind to stay open to changes and new ideas!
- Pick brains at work, with others who share your hobbies, in your friend groups, your family, or even with a stranger.
- Try to read something at least once a day.
- Love watching TV? Try watching something LIVE!
Do not let failure lead to sulking or quitting.
- Use failure to gain even more knowledge and be more prepared the next time you enter the ring!
- Remember that every arrow must get pulled back to get shot forward!
- Do you have a fear of failure? Try to do one thing that gets you out of your comfort zone every single day. Just a little step outside goes a long way!
Only make promises you can keep.
- Don’t set yourself up for failure.
- Learn how to say, “I would love to help when I have the time. Let me find a date and time for you.” This way you are taking on more when you know your plate has enough space to carry it!
- Don’t take “no” personally and don’t be afraid to say it!
Retrain your “all or nothing mentality.”
Have you ever been 10 minutes late to a workout, so you decide to not do it at all? Or maybe you are too busy and know you can’t get your movement in that day…Remember that all movement matters and it’s important to find ways to treat your body that does so much for you 24/7, 365.
- Examples: Stand during a phone call or Zoom meeting, take the stairs, ask a coworker to take a little hallway or parking lot walk with ya!
Lastly, take advantage of your resources! Below are some FREE ways to add to all aspects of your wellness journey.
- Mental Wellness: Look into apps like Headspace or Fiton and/or find a quiet room for a few minutes.
- Social Wellness: Eat your lunch with a coworker. Say hi to someone in a different office.
- Physical Wellness: Take a lap! Find a nearby gym for a quick 20-minute movement session!
- Financial Wellness: Create a budget and get yourself a pay day routine!
